Layers of the Alimentary Canal
From your teeth to your tush, these four layers compose the walls of the entire GI tract. Having a general understanding of these layers is important, because certain diseases are localized to particular layers. For instance, Mallory-Weiss tears only affect the mucosa and submucosa while Boerhaave tears go through all four layers. The adventitia is the least important layer to learn about, as it’s often poorly defined.
